Scottish acts sizzle at a soggy T in the Park
Upcoming artists show their mettle at Starthallan Castle
OUR first SAMAs trip to T in the Park's new home, Strathallan Castle, was fruitful if not a little wet and wild!
We explored the campsite from the glamour of the Main Stage, to the atmospheric King Tut's Wah Wah Tent, with sprinklings of talent on the T-Break and BBC Introducing Stage in between.
Gerry Cinnamon kicked off our weekend with a bang as he made the graduation to King Tut's this year, having played to a packed T-Break Stage in 2015. Singer-songwriter Cinnamon was in jovial form as ever, cajoling the crowd with his charm and wit as he fired off singles such as 'Hope Over Fear', 'Kampfire Vampire' and 'Sometimes' as well as a cover of 'Caledonia'. The Castlemilk-born acoustic star was equipped with his signature bunnet, loop pedal, and of course his endearing patter and crowd surfs. The perfect festival opener!
Fatherson are another to have seen massive progression of late with the release of their new album 'Open Book'. The Kilmarnock rockers enjoyed a large crowd as they played the King Tut's Wah Wah Tent on a damp Saturday afternoon. Frontman Ross Leighton was at his powerful best as the trio stormed out lead single 'Always' to open their set. Tracks from 'Open Book' and their 2014 debut LP 'I Am An Island' followed including 'Mine For Me', 'James' and 'Lost Little Boys'. Fatherson were also equipped with exciting news, as they closed their set announcing a headline gig at The Barrowlands for 23rd December. Get tickets here.
The Lapelles were another highlight of our weekend. The indie 5-piece brought a tonne of energy, passion and a barrel of sing along rock songs to the T-Break Stage on Sunday. Their confidence is really shining through from supporting heavyweights such as The Last Shadow Puppets and Blossoms. It is great to see emerging talent having fun and success simultaneously.
2015 SAMAs nominees Man Of Moon were a must see on Sunday also. The rock duo have been building momentum for the last year since releasing debut single 'Sign' followed by the 'Medicine' EP. The Edinburgh two-piece delivered a powerful set on the BBC Introducing Stage. You can catch the band on tour in UK this October.
Besides the Scottish talent on show we were impressed by The Last Shadow Puppets, Kent punk duo Slaves and legendary rockers the Red Hot Chili Peppers who headlined the last night to cap off the festival in style.
