Lucia and The Best Boys - Good Girls Do Bad Things
One of the hottest acts to come out of Glasgow in the past few years, Lucia and The Best Boys are back with a sharp new look and a sound to match. The latest single ‘Good Girls Do Bad Things’ is a track steeped in 80’s aesthetic, right down to the chunky bass that underpins the instrumental while the singer crafts deadly melodies.
Baby Strange - Bad Man In Prague
Released in advance of their headline show as part of Tenement Trail, local legends Baby Strange are back with the scathing ‘Bad Man In Prague’. With the bands blistering instrumental taking a backseat to special guest feature Jokey, the unadulterated prose adds to the already sleazy guitar lines.
The Lawnmower - The Pleasures of the Table
Consisting of duo Conor Coogan and Thom Querns, The Lawnmower’s latest single is a stunning piece of electro-pop. With the solid guitar chords throughout the chorus, ‘The Pleasures of the Table’ expertly flows between the more abstract verses to these choruses with ease. This track acts as a breath of fresh air with a different take on the genre through the duo’s abilities to embed interesting melodies with leftfields inspirations such as Peter Gabriel.
MALKA - Taking It Back
Having written songs for TV shows and films such as Skins and 127 Hours, Tamara Schlesinger aka MALKA brings her talent back into the limelight. ‘Taking It Back’ is a quirky one filled with a dense frame of thick synths and extra percussion that allows the singer/songwriter to mould encapsulating vocal melodies.
Anchor Lane - Fame Shame
Achieving write ups from Jim Gellatly in his ‘Ones to Watch’ column in the Scottish Sun, Anchor Lane are striking while the iron is still hot with the brand new ‘Fame Shame’. A classic mix of the golden era of rock from the 70’s/80’s, the four-piece manage to put their own spin on it with a powerful performance.
L-Space - I Never Knew
Taking their wide-eyed outlook and crafting it into something as futuristic as it is current, the magical L-Space bring forth the new single from the follow-up to their debut LP. Held together with the sleek synths and a bottomless sense of wonder ‘I Never Knew’ is three short, but very beautiful minutes.
Fat Suit - Mombasa
Bringing together two genres that shouldn’t work together on paper, the mighty Fat Suit are back with their brand of jazz influence and indie guitar riffs. Over the course of the epic seven minutes, ‘Mombasa’ touches on a multitude of genres; styles and musical idiosyncrasies that it’s hard not to lose yourself within.
James Michael Rodgers - Look What You’ve Done
From the start ‘Look What You’ve Done’ is oozing glorious psychedelic energy, with troubadour James Michael Rodgers demanding vocal presence bringing the track together. Each instrument drifts in and out of the main focus allowing for an enjoyable listen that combines 60’s Woodstock era acts with more traditional elements.
Wuh Oh - Ziggy
Beginning with a flutter of vocal samples backed by staggered synths, the new track from the multi-talented Wuh Oh drags the listener into a whirlwind of jubilant energy. While not adhering to the traditional song format the track defy’s judgement by being undeniably fun and full of sugary keys.
Catholic Action - One Of Us
In anticipation of their sophomore record, Glasgow punks Catholic Action are back with the ferocious new single. After a brief break the quartet are back with ‘One Of Us’ in all its scuzzy glory. The wailing guitars and stomping beat propell the song into a boiling point of utter brilliance.
