MUSIC ROUNDUP: June Releases 2018
Another month of excellent new music. We've picked out 10 Scottish releases for you to enjoy!
The Snuts - Seasons
Having started off the year with a series of sell out shows and festival slots both home and away on the near horizon there really is no stopping this West Lothian four-piece. With Seasons as their first proper single release it sets listeners old and new up perfectly with a taste of what their live set brings, a compelling guitar lead which is driven by raw vocal stylings.
Megan Airlie - Honey
With a voice otherworldly and understated yet never try hard, Megan Airlie returns with her second single of the year, Honey. Glimmering tones of piano overshadow the darker sentiments of the song which remain timeless and heartbreakingly bittersweet.
Kathryn Joseph - From When I Wake The Want Is
With the anticipation of a new album being released towards the end of this year, From When I Wake The Want Is, is a track taken from it. Kathryn Joseph returns once again with that trademark vocal, exuding celestial beauty and disarming with vulnerability behind each lyric to produce one of the most spellbinding tracks of the year so far.
Fatherson - Making Waves
Returning with their first offering since 2016’s Open Book, Fatherson are back with Making Waves, the first single from upcoming album Sum of All Your Parts. Bringing equal measures sincerity and barraging instrumentals with common ground found in the nostalgia that steeps their entire identity as a band, paving the way for a strong start to a new era for this three-piece
Lional - Dark Sunglasses
“Dark Sunglasses” is the latest instalment from Inverness 4-piece Lional, and was recorded with Jarvis Cocker and Richard Hawley producer Colin Elliot. The song carries that signature Lional sound. After catching their set recently at SAMAs stage in XpoNorth, we are looking forward to hearing more!
Frontierer - Glitcher
Frontierer are continuing to put Scotland’s metal scene on the map, and it is no wonder with giant releases like ‘Glitcher’. The first taster from the upcoming album “Unloved” is an intense 4 minutes of metal, or in other words - heavy as fuck! The album was written and recorded by Pedram Valiani & Chad Kapper, and Mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege. The full release is out on July 27th.
Proc Fiskal - Dish Washing
Taken from album “Insula” Edinburgh’s Joe Powers has released a mammoth of new tunes. This is a very smooth and modern electronic soundscape. One to watch for 2018. Proc Fiscal will be playing live at The Bongo Club in Edinburgh on 3rd July.
ONR. - Love In Suburbia
ONR is singer songwriter Robert Shields, hailing from Dumfries producing electronic pop drawing influences from Arcade Fire and Depeche Mode. Out now on Capitol Records.
Lilura - Feel Love
Having already hit a wave of success as an acoustic act over the years, Jemma Tweedie has shattered the conformity of her Highland upbringing to spawn a glittering electro-pop alias with new single Feel Love proving that.
The Lafontaines - Up
Following the release of their second album towards the end of last year, new single Up shows a brighter side to the four-piece. While still packing a punch both instrumentally and lyrically all of the components synonymous with The Fonts statement sound remain but are amped with more electro stylings, marking a clear evolution in their sound.
