SAMAs 2017: Meet the Line-up

This year’s live ceremony for the Scottish Alternative Music Awards is taking place at The Garage in the heart of Glasgow and will see some of the cities rising stars take to the stage. The line-up has been spearheaded by WHITE, BooHooHoo and Holy Mountain, with more artists still to be announced.

WHITE – Berlin era Bowie with a modern edge

Coming off the back of their debut album One Night Stand Forever, WHITE have taken the best bits from Berlin era David Bowie and combined it with some pop sensibility. With a tasteful grasp on 80’s nostalgia the band have produced a handful of singles and the Cuts That Don’t Bleed EP ahead of their inaugural LP. Having spent six months writing and rehearsing before unleashing their angular electro rock unto the world, the effort put in is evident. Touring up and down the country as well as appearances at Electric Fields, Kendall Calling and Carnival 56, WHITE’s hard work will no doubt pay off with ever growing success.

BooHooHoo – slick electro pop with melodies to spare

Emerging Glasgow trio BooHooHoo may have only been gigging for a short time but have managed to put out some of the freshest sounding electro pop in the country. Managing to sell out Nice n Sleazy’s last year, the quartet used it as a launch night for their debut EP DebutHooHoo. Produced by former Prides member Lewis Gardiner, the EP is a weird and wonderful take on the electro pop that stands out head and shoulders above the rest. Adding a slick 80’s production and dual vocal duties from Richard (bass/synth) and Lizzie (synth/flute) gives each track a larger dynamic to the band’s sound.

Holy Mountain – Kevin Parker fronted Black Sabbath

The whirlwind of fuzz and psychedelic noise that three-piece Holy Mountains can only be summed as a Kevin Parker fronted Black Sabbath. Mixing 70’s heavy rock with the extended jams and colourful guitar sounds, the band can provide a common ground for everyone that’s into rock music. Having signed to Chemikal Underground Records, home to Arab Strap and Mogwai the band two raucous full lengths. The first LP Earth Measures managed to gain attention from BBC Radio Scotland presenter Vic Galloway and shining reviews from Drowned In Sound and The List. With the band’s 2014 release Ancient Astronauts the band have kept their brand of heavy psychedelia fresh with another set of scorching tracks.
