MUSIC ROUNDUP: December Releases 2020
The final music roundup of 2020 is here! Go fire up the kettle, pop on some headphones and dive into these ten exciting releases from December. We will be back in 2021, until then Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from everyone at team SAMA!
Alex Amor - Motion
Offering an enticing build up of vocal harmonies and wavy guitar tones, singer/songwriter Alex Amor presents ‘Motion’ as her third single this year. A subtle but heartfelt song, ‘Motion’ is a perfect mix of guitar driven pop that is reminiscent of artists like The Regrettes and Big Thief.
Callum Easter, Ella-Betty - Xmas Time (Lets Have A Good Time)
A warm invitation from SAMA 2020 winner Callum Easter to celebrate the festive times is perhaps exactly what is needed. Featuring his daughter Ella-Betty, the track could melt away any bad feelings towards Christmas. The drones of synths and accordion are subverted by the ripple of joy from young Ella, with Easter crooning the winter blues alongside.
Chlobocop - Its Not Over
Coming as a more subdued sound for Chlobocop, the Glasgow based artist has released Its Not Over. A luscious instrumental filled with slinky bass lines and sparkling acoustic guitar, the emotive vocal performance really brings the track together.
Daisy Miles - Face
Solo electronic/lo-fi artist Daisy Miles crafts such intricate loops on her latest single Face, she has created a murky pool of dark pop magic. The layered production on the vocals creates an ethereal atmosphere throughout the track, Miles totally envelops you into her world.
Drift - The Isle of PT. 2
Bringing a shimmering sonic landscape into focus, pop-duo Drift create a musical equivalent to the island landscape we have in Scotland. With throbbing synths hanging over the twin vocal harmonies from Linzi Clark and Andrew Quinn, the buoyant drum beat holds the track together.
Fergus McCreadie - Cairn
Having garnered a wave of interest upon the release of his debut album Turas in 2018, Fergus McCreadie has been producing elegant contemporary jazz with ease. Filled with stunning rhythms that complement the virtuoso piano playing from McCreadie, his new track Cairn is an odyssey of musicianship.
GASP - Felix The Cat
Pulsating with massive 808 bass, the new single from GASP is an unstoppable force. Entitled ‘Felix the Cat’, the Glasgow based rapper manages to create a simple but powerful track. The slabs of bass cutting in between the rapper ferocious bars make for a fiery listen.
Modern Studies - Endless Song
Coming as part of a brand new EP entitled ‘Life Flows in Endless Song’, the local folk-rock pioneers Modern Studies have gifted us with more of their esoteric stylings. The cacophonous drone of the strings draws you into the groove laid out by the precise bass. Endless Song is a dynamic and expansive track, truly widening the scope for these experimentalist musicians.
Pelican Tusk - Not What You Meant
Twisting and turning through frantic verses and charming choruses, Pelican Tusk’s Not What You Meant is a rollercoaster of excitement. The art-rock quintet manages to fit snarling riffs and thick bass lines in between a dreamy groove of twisted funk.
Sean Focus - You In My Way
Merging the artistic talents of a rapper, producer and engineer, Zimbabwe/Scottish native Sean Focus is on track to break through. Having gained recognition from BBC 1Xtra’s DJ Target, Focus is back with the new single You in My Way. With dense production engraved with tight trap style beats, Focus commands the track with his slick bars.
