In alphabetical order:
Alex Kapranos, Clara Luciani - Summer Wine
With an absolutely stunning combination of vocal styles, this cover of Summer Wine from Alex Kapranos (Franz Ferdinand) and French songstress Clara Luciani is utterly intoxicating. With the blissful guitar riffs underpinning the electric tension between the two artists, the song is seductive as it drags you in.
Carla J Easton, Honeyblood - WEIRDO
With a number of projects throughout her career garnering acclaim, including two nominations for Scottish Album of the Year with TeenCanteen and her debut solo LP, Carla J Easton is back with a roaring shout of carefree pop. “WEIRDO” marks the third single in the run up to her sophomore effort. The track is a brash and beautiful one that is propelled by a wall of synths, with Stina of Honeyblood providing backing vocals and guitar to help drive the track into greatness.
Fiskur - I Become Silver
A backbone of solid drums holds “I Became Silver” down as frontman/guitarist Ross Clark croons a story over in the form of his vocal melody. Combining a sweeping set of keys, the track builds into a climatic flurry of musical ideas.
Future Get Down - When It Works
Having garnered support from Steve Lamacq and Vic Galloway through their two previous EP’s, Future Get Down have managed to strike gold with their brand of post-punk. On the latest single, “When It Works” the quintet creates a cacophony of sound. Bringing a 70’s post-punk attitude with a modern set of instrumentals to form a track packed with hooks.
Jack Brotherhood - Friends
Glasgow based quartet Jack Brotherhood kick their new track “Friends” off with an earnest piano that breaks into a joyous wave of distortion. Toeing the line between “sad bastard indie” and “gay dad rock” (their words), the group manage to bring the best of both worlds together.
LOTOS - Home Free
LOTOS aka Last of the Old School blends a unique mix of genres including reggae, rap and afro-beat. “Home Free” is a prime example of this talent, bringing a killer hook to a backdrop of almost trap style beats.
LOWT, Maiz - Floating
Coming as a new project from resident Highlander, Lewis W T Buick, LOWT is an array of sounds and collaborations that span multiple genres. While managing to keep a string of continuity throughout the sound, the collaboration between LOWT and newcomer Maiz is a sprawling epic of blissful electronica.
Minerva Wakes - Tell Me
The punishing start of harsh electronics ignites “Tell Me” into a frenzy, layered with glitched vocals and keys the track continues to create a sense of a dark club room throughout. Coming as Minerva Wakes debut single, “Tell Me” is an unforgiving wave of electronic mastery.
The Ninth Wave - Comedown forever
Coming as the third single from the new EP entitled “Happy Days”, The Ninth Wave have stepped the game up with a more dense sonic landscape in Come Down Forever. Beginning with a simple acoustic guitar, as the song progresses the band layers it with additional vocals and touches of keys and synths.
SHEARS - Ideas
Delivering an impassioned performance straight of the bat, SHEARS draws you in with her strong vocal prowess. Draping melodies over a sparse but intriguing instrumental, the artist creates a track fit for the radio A-lists. With an effective punch of solid songwriting, Ideas is easily an accessible point for fans and newcomers.
