It’s been another busy month of Scottish releases! Our July playlist (embedded at the bottom!) features the debut single by brand new artist One Nine, and fresh singles from the likes of Godeater, Anna Meredith, Theo Kottis, and even some happy hardcore by Romeo Taylor.

Anna Meredith - Paramour

With a career spanning over a residency at the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra; soundtracking PRADA’s Spring/Summer 2015 collections as well as getting rave reviews from The New York Times; Q Magazine; DIY and Pitchfork, plus winning SAY award it would be hard to ignore Anna Meredith’s talent and hard work. ‘Paramour’ is a wondrous journey that spans over multiple genres, as to be expected, making for an enveloping listen. Combining visceral guitar leads with electronics heavier than ten tonnes of concrete Meredith fully displays her skills as one of the most interesting artists out at the moment.

Godeater - Silent Spring

With a signature blend of technical metal, hardcore elements and atmospheric moments Glasgows own Godeater are here with their new single ‘Silent Spring'‘. Releasing in preparation of their debut album ‘All Flesh is Grass’, the quartet are allowing fans to brace themselves.

Heron Valley - Springburn, Just shy of Ireland

Rising from their humble beginnings as local trad heroes within their hometown of Dunoon, Heron Valley have gone from strength to strength. From touring the USA to playing festivals up and down Scotland, the five piece are back with a single from their upcoming EP ‘Erie Storm’. Reaching a climactic burst of sheer talent ‘Springburn, Just Shy of Ireland’ is a joyous number that will no doubt get anyones foot stomping.

NOVA THETA - 3AM [prod. bluetoof]

Pulling together a beat strikingly reminiscent to Mike Skinner's Original Pirate Material, this collaboration by Nova Scotia The Truth and Theta is a superb display of the vibrant hip hop scene in Glasgow. The multi-talented young artist, with help from bluetoof on the production side, manages to produce something just as nostalgic as it is relevant in today's musical climate.

One Nine - Difficult Days

‘Difficult Days’ is the debut single for the new Glasgow kids on the block One Nine. A densely packed track of electronic pop rock glory, the duo display a clear talent for writing big hooks, with leading chorus "You know we care, you're running out of time" being stuck in your head for days. Gearing up for their headline slot at the Garage Attic, it will certainly be one to keep an ear out for.

Parliamo - End To End

Already being hailed as one of the most exciting acts to emerge from Scotland in recent years, Parliamo’s blistering new single is all the proof you need to believe it. ‘End to End’ is a scorching three minutes of power-pop melodies smashed together with that seering energy that makes Scottish punk bands so engaging. The Perth based five-piece have taken on Wide Days, been a part of King Tuts Summer Nights and tore through venues across the country showing no signs of stopping.

Profisee - Powers

Opening on a motivational sample of the late Stan Lee, Edinburgh MC and producer Profisee blends his take on the genre with a fresh flavour in collaboration with Daryl Donald. The lo-fi delicate beat forms the backbone of the track, allowing to ground itself within the genre.

Romeo Taylor - The Kingdom Of Scotland

Hot off his appearance at Kelvingrove Bandstand supporting Mac Demarco, Glasgow’s new prodigal son Romeo Taylor has dropped his new tune. The Kingdom of Scotland can only be described as happy hardcore which perhaps is the ballsyest move from a local artist in reccent memory. Not only is it a well produced track from the 24-year-old, Taylor sure knows how to write a hook. A true glimpse into the alternative sounds that most people would have bluetoothed to their schoolmates back in the early 2000’s. Romeo Taylor plays the Hug and Pint on Sunday (28th July) with support from The Lawnmower.

Theo Kottis - Turning Around

Building his DJ skills and reputation between Glasgow’s Sub Club and Edinburgh’s Cabaret Voltaire, Theo Kottis has been making big waves within the UK clubbing circuit. Combing a soulful vocal sample with an infectious beat ‘Turning Around’ is akin to the likes of Disclosure but harnesses a power that could only be achieved from soaking in the Scottish club culture.

The Vegan Leather - The Hit

Coming alongside the long-anticipated announcement of their debut album titled Poor Girls / Broken Boys, new single ‘The Hit’ is exactly what it says on the tin. A synth-laden neo-disco wonder, the intertwining vocals between Marie Collins and Gian Bernacchi drives the track forward in their signature VL style. Their LP arrives via Midnight Pink/Believe Digital this October.
